Shabby Chic Tag

I am in LOVE with these Julie Nutting doll stamps. They take a while to either colour or paper piece but the results are really worth it.

I love how the hair turned out on this one. I think I used E53,55,57 and maybe E49 for the very darkest areas. It’s hard to see the very fine detail but the legs are also paper pieced which is why the colour is different from the skin I usually colour. I added Copics for shading that matched the paper’s tone. In case you are wondering, yes, this is a very large stamp. I handmade the tag but it is close to a large standard tag, about 6.5” x 3”.

The paper is from an older Webster’s Pages; background (made of several papers), lobster paper (distressed and covered with Rock Candy crackle paint) and the paper piecing papers all come from the paper pack. I carefully cut out the paper around the tag reinforcer so it would show through. The little boats were coloured with Copics too.

I messed up the stamping of the feet, I got a double line, so I made the shoes slightly higher to cover that up. The stars are covered with a Wink Of Stella pen. The sand is a product called Mudd Puddles; it’s basically sand in glue in a small jar so you can apply it like molding paste. It doesn’t apply as smoothly but it is fun.

Baby Thank You Card Folder for Unscripted Sketches #253 and Giveaway Winner

I love using the sketch for something other than basic cards. This week I was making cards for a friend who just had a baby and the sketch worked beautifully a folder to hold the cards.

I used some Webster’s Pages papers to make this. The yellow ribbon looks so pretty. I love that shade of yellow and the chevrons are awesome.

This is the inside of the folder. I designed it myself so if you like it and want the dimensions, let me know.

Here’s a closeup of the embellishments. The arrows are made from Craft-a-board then covered with white cardstock and washi tape.

This is the card I designed. Sorry that it’s hard to read the tag; it says ‘thanks’. I made the card narrower than the usual 4.25”. It is only 4” which helped because I wanted to get the most from a scrap of 12” wide paper and of course, 4” fits across 3 times but 4.25 only fits twice. That also allowed me to hang the trunk off the edge and still fit into a regular envelope.

Hi Inlaid Die Cuts Card

I won a set of alphabet dies from Taylored Expressions a few months ago and I decided to use them for the PTI Make It Monday challenge to embed die cuts in the background.

I used washi tape for the black dots. The paper is from Webster pages I think. You can check out the post on Nichole’s blog for directions but the basic idea is that you use the dies to cut the shapes out of the background then also out of a contrasting paper and put the die cuts into the holes in the background. Easy right? I thought my die cuts didn’t have enough contrast so I inked them. Tricky since I’d already adhered them into the background but I cut the dies again from scratch paper and used the negative space as a mask. I also cut the letters from the same paper as I used on the card; the holes are hiding underneath the white panel! :)

I’m also entering this in Seize the Sketch 7. And in the SSS Wednesday Challenge Anything Goes.

Circus n Roses Card for Simon Says Stamp n Show Challenge

I can’t believe it took me so long to find out about the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge blog now called the Monday Challenge Blog. With my love of all things shabby and vintage, it’s right up my alley. This week’s challenge of Carnivals wasn’t super interesting to me until I looked at this month’s SSS card kit! The papers in it were perfect!

I’m going to keep it short and sweet today as I have 10 other projects to post! Yep, I participated in PTI’s Stamp-a-Faire so I have to blog all of those too. One thing that is hard to see both in the photo but also IRL is the gold tulle. If you look at the top hat above the top right rose you can see it. I sprayed it with gold mist so its uneven and very vintage looking. LOVE it! IRL it adds an ethereal quality and you don’t notice it at first but you can see it.

Elegant Floral Sympathy Card

Sadly I needed a sympathy card last week. An old fellow from my congregation passed away at over 90 years old after nearly 67 years of marriage, a pretty good run huh? He had a long, good life. The weekend before he passed he was at a party listening to us all sing karaoke! Apparently not his thing even though we tried to get him to join!

So this card was for his sweet wife. I tailor the card to the recipient, I don’t base it on the gender of the deceased. Is that what you all do? I layered ribbon, twine, leaves, small flowers and a larger rose then tucked in a tied bit of tulle. It made for a lovely embellishment cluster. This is such a heartfelt sentiment isn’t it? It really sums up how I feel when someone I really care about loses someone close.

Cowgirl Thank Yous

Our family was invited to a cowboy party a month or so ago. I had such fun getting our costumes ready but that is for another post. (I made felt cowboy boots and hat for the baby; he looked ADORABLE!) I made thank you cards for the organizers using a girlie version of the cowboy theme.

The papers are from Webster’s Pages Western Romance collection. The rose is a Spellbinders spiral flower die.

The rose is sponged with Tattered Rose Distress ink. I usually find it too dull for most things but it matched this paper perfectly!

I used Unscripted Sketches #164. Guess what? I won #163 with my orange and turquoise stars card! Yeah!

Book Loans Album for Mom

I’d have sworn I already posted this project; I wonder if I did and it got lost, hmmm. I make this mish mash journal style album for my mom. She often loans out her sewing books and then asks me if I have them and doesn’t quite believe me if I say no because I have a bad memory. She started writing down what people borrowed then loses the papers! So, this is the solution!

Please click on the photos for a larger view. I tried to decorate some pages but also leave some pages empty for writing. I used a variety of ribbons to decorate the rings and a gorgeous Recollections rose.

The little circle hanging on the string is a Tim Holtz fragment tag. the other side has a little flower showing through some glitter and glossy accents under the clear plastic tag. I’m not sure why I photographed it like this (as I remember, I was in a hurry) but it hangs down slightly when the string is wrapped around the button. The right page is an envelope where I put some library cards for the books she lends out more often. I also gave her some library pockets to put in those books.

I used a lot of Webster’s Pages paper for this. I did a bit of stamping…

…and made some shaped pages.

Some of the pages are covered chipboard. One is a doily and some are just plain paper.

I also used a recipe card that was a stamped image I was given and some Basic Grey paper too. I’m afraid I missed photographing the page behind the recipe card

This page is one of my favourites. I love the cherry chipboard and vintage magazine advertisement. The left page is meant to be viewed when turned 90 degrees.

Although certainly not an exact match, I tried to embellish the cherries to have green stems like IRL. The right page is one of the most embellished. I added a stamped image, pearls, a tiny key and a stick pin.

and finally the back cover. Another vintage magazine ad and some lovely velvet rick rack.

Super Simple Sympathy

Try and say that 10 times fast! Sharon Johnson posted a super simple sympathy card this week using Webster’s Pages paper as a background. Those papers have so much going on, you don’t need to add much else. What a great idea as I hate spending time making sympathy cards; I care but it’s a bit morbid especially when you make them in advance.

On the right is the most embellished one I made. It has the little flowers and a button in addition to the die cut sentiment panel and the ribbon. The one on the left has no embellishments other than ribbon but it has some patterned paper on the die cut.

The best part is that I made two of the purple cards; all I used for paper was a single sheet of vintage violet cardstock (cut in half), two sheets of DP and scraps of ivory cardstock as the purple die cut used the remainder of the paper I cut off from the 6x6 sheet.

The button was threaded with a tiny strip of paper! I raised the die cuts on foam dots. I couldn’t find a tiny leaf to add to the small flowers so I used a green button instead.

This one is the simplest card. No embellishements with a style and colour combo which are definitely more masculine. Yeah, it has flowers on it and I would never usually send a card with flowers on it to a guy but have you ever looked at store-bought sympathy cards? Mostly flowers or landscapes so I think it’s OK. This one is going to the Renz family. So sad. The others are for my stash. I am going to make up a small folder of thank you, sympathy and get well cards to keep in my car. I am ALWAYS forgetting to write out cards ahead of time and as I drive to visit someone or get close to church, I remember then. So this will let me still give cards despite my terrible memory!

Webster’s Pages Mojo Monday Card

I love Mojo Monday! You have to enter to try and win a FREE stamp set worth $24 too! Not too shabby of a prize! I won once before with this card and I didn’t enter again for a while because I wasn’t sure if I was allowed even though I couldn’t find a rule. Some contests do not allow winners to win again for three months. No point in entering if you can’t win right? So here goes with Mojo Monday #98.

(Can you tell I want to try staging more interestingly?) The DP base and the scalloped edge are both Webster’s Pages journaling cards. I just LOVE these! They are decorated on one side and the other side is lined and decorated. The scalloped edge was printed only, I cut it out from a larger card (not pre-cut). On the right side, the stamp, Post Card wording, stripes and the flourish-y were part of the journaling card-YEAH!!

The sentiment at the bottom was on the back of the scalloped journaling card. These cards are just so beautiful, anyone could make a gorgeous card with them. The heart frame used to be silver, it is a Memory Makers tag maker frame; I coloured it with my Pilot gold paint pen. Both the photo corners and the frame were too bright for the rest of the card so I darkened them with a dark brown Copic so they fit better with the rest of the card.

The ribbon bow is made with the 2” Bow Easy, two-three looped silk ribbon bows layered on each other with a SU! pretties kit pearl on top. All of the layers are sponged with cocoa ink. The ink bottle and pen nib were stamped on Kraft CS, cut out and coloured with markers, cocoa for the bottle and Copic c-1 for the nib; both had clear Spica pen over them. For the bottle I hoped it might look more like glass without having to get out the glaze and for the nib, more metallic. The music is a real vintage music sheet and I used those old-fashioned, lick-to-stick (yucky tasting) photo corners.
