Layered Violette Card

It’s been a while since I made a truly shabby card dripping with mixed media and vintage-y goodness. So I took some time between design team gigs to make this fun card using a new-to-me JustRite stamp set.

To start, I used a palette knife to spread three colours of paint on the background. Then I mixed up some custom modeling paste with a dye reinker applying it with a Tim Holtz stencil. When that was dry, I added more stenciling, the letters, with just normal paste then applied gold embossing powder and heat set it. It will bubble a lot but in the end it looks really dimensional and interesting. If you want a smoother result, let the paste dry on its own, then heat set the powder.

Then I started to layer all kinds of fun bits and bobs. The colouring (Prismacolor) was already done another day so I just had to die cut the Voilette panel and add some glass glitter to the edges. It took a while to decide where everything was going to go, I kept adding more then laying the panel on top, then I would take it off and level all the layers out with pieces of fun foam.

To finish this card off, I added some brads, flowers and ribbon. I especially love how the metallic and glitter washi tapes look peeking out here and there. The gold straw is also a favourite. I took a blue and white flowered straw and painted it with gold leafing paint!

Rustic Elegance Bracelet and Earrings Set

Welcome to my blog! I’m so glad you came by to see what I made for this year’s Bead Hoarders Blog Hop! My generous partner Terri sent me a lovely bead she had hoarded and some pieces she made.

With her permission, I decided to use one of the beautiful pieces she made for the bracelet and two beautiful drops for the earrings. Isn’t the ceramic roses bracelet piece lovely? I added it to some sari silk in gold. I wrapped it twice, once with the roses piece along with a couple of crystals and next with a piece of chain sewn to the silk. From the chain hangs some antique bronze/gold findings and some more crystals. I wear it so the dangles hang down over my hand. I added the charm to help weigh down the clasp so the bracelet doesn’t flip upside down. Its fun to add a little something extra anyway.

The earrings are pretty simple but I love the simplicity of them. I don’t post jewelry very often but if you are interested in seeing the odd piece and some lovely cards I make on a regular basis, please subscribe! If you like what you see, let me know!

Shabby Frame Floral Card

This week at Crazy 4 Challenges we were asked to make an owl card or if you don’t have any owl images, use any bird.

shabby pink floral frame

I dug out this VERY old Basic Grey paper that I ADORE! The pack has the lovely name, Porcelain. This particular sheet features tons of birdcages and birds. I had to work hard to not cover too much of the paper. The frame is a Spellbinders Label 55 with an oval cut out and a border die with sponging to show off the tiny sweet hearts. The leafy die is by PTI. I tucked in a few bits of seam binding ribbon and added a charm.

I hope you will play along this week! You may find birds hiding out in interesting places if you look hard in various different stamp sets.

Papertrey Ink 10th Anniversary Projects

This year is the 10th Anniversary for PTI. They’ve had various challenges this week and I’ve played along with a few of them.

10 ann set

Here’s a photo of them all. I started with the card and decided to keep the colour scheme the same throughout.

10 ann card

The challenge for the card was to repeat images or die cuts. I used the tiny images from Bitty Baby Blessings. Can I just tell you how much I love the new colour, Pale Peony? It’s so lovely! My new fave colour!!

10 ann birdhouse

Another challenge was to make a bird house based on a template Nichole made a few years ago. Mine is pretty basic but I did add a cute little perch and a nest inside made of thin strips of a paper bag. There are even a couple tiny eggs inside! The bird and branch are from Spring Woods.

10 ann package

I made this little package tag using a PTI die cut and some crepe paper. The challenge was to be inspired by some packaging by Rebecca Luminarias. She had a tag with similar scrunched crepe paper.

10 ann coaster

My last project was a felt coaster. The challenge was to be inspired by some felt projects on the blog. There was a sweet aqua mist coaster on there and I used it as inspiration. I don’t have any stitching dies so I just hand-stitched it all.

Get Well Soon

So do you have some of those paper? You know the ones, they are so old but you still love them and can’t get rid of them? I have a TON of those papers. I recently saw someone use some old October Afternoon paper and I was totally inspired to use up some of my own stash.

This card is for this week’s Crazy 4 Challenges with the theme to be inspired by a book. You could use a book page, characters from a book, use a novel title or quote as inspiration or use book images. I used a book text reproduction but I was still remembering last week’s challenge to use a sentiment as a focal point so I added a large sentiment. The sentiment was cut three times and layered as was the silhouette flower.

Come out and join our challenge! We would love to have you! If you’ve gotten Simon Says Stamp kits for a while you will have To Thine Own Shelf (I Like Big Books) stamp set from September 2014. Lots of paper pads have text or script paper in them or use an old or disused book!
