A Sister is a Forever Friend

The die cut with the ‘sister’ quote was in a paper pack I bought recently. My sister comes over nearly every week to have a Bible study with my older son, just because. It is hard for me with everything going on to be very consistent so knowing she comes takes some of the pressure and guilt off my shoulders. When I saw this quote, I was inspired to make her a card. I really appreciate all she does, especially since she lives nearly an hour and a half away!

sisters
Just a couple quick notes: the pearls are Liquid Pearls, the flower was already that colour with the text on it, I rubbed in some Liquid Pearls, waited for it to dry, coated the edges in glitter then added the pearl center. I really like this layout, I’ll definitely be using it again!

Enjoy, Rebecca

Baby’s Laugh for Whimsical Wednesdays

I went to a scrapbook sale on Friday night and got a Paper pack from Crate Hill Papers for such a good deal! I have loved these papers ever since I got a few in a scrapbook kit I bought so I was thrilled to find the whole pack. I hadn't even known it was sold in a pack! Of course here you are just seeing the reverse side of the papers but I thought they worked for this layout and quote.

baby laugh faeries

Sorry the quote is a bit crooked. Even with a grid acrylic block, when stamping on a curvy shape, it is hard to get it straight. Next time I will lay it out on my cutting mat using the grid on it to keep the die cut shape straight. The buckle is a die cut from the pack. The ribbon and the DP look much better together IRL.

This card was made using a fabulous sketch from Madelynn for Whimsical Wednesdays. You can see that I stretched the sketch to make my card and I replaced the sentiment with a flower. So did you love all the awesome cards from last week? I sure did! I hope some of you played, I’ll be on the lookout when I make the rounds this week. Beauty Art Piece

I made this a long time ago, over three years ago. I was scrapbooking so many pages for my boy (Spencer wasn’t here yet) that I had a yearning for something girlie.  I can’t help but buy girlie products but of course they don’t work on boy pages! So I just made this for fun. Just a collage of pretty things I loved and was yearning to use.

I’m sorry, I really can’t list a recipe because it was just too long ago.

Man’s Shirt Thank You Card

My mom buys nearly all of my kid’s clothes. She loves going to Osh Kosh, Heart Strings and Carter’s. We even have a onesie with “If they could only stay little until their Carter’s wear out.” Remember that old ad jingle? They are such cute clothes! We just got a huge bag full of jammies, jeans, pants, shirts, jackets, socks-AWESOME! So this ‘card’ is a thank you for all of it.

shirt thank you1
This was pretty easy to make, Martha Stewart has instructions but the diagrams were really small on my iPhone and clicking didn’t enlarge them. So I found a site with Hawaiian Origami shirt instructions.

shirt thank you2

This is how the shirt looks without the tag in the way. Isn’t it cute? Below is how the inside looks. I used scraps of the same paper, reverse side, and wrote a note from 2 year old Spencer to his nana. Jameson also wrote a note on another little scrap. They tuck in quite nicely and I’m pretty sure they won’t fall out.

This Be the Tale of Two Intrepid Sailors

Two hearty lads conspire to go on an adventure on the high seas. Jack and Nikki, wealthy royals, have commissioned a new boat, the plans sit on their desk along with a map and a warning from a wizened old buccaneer. “Don’t sail to the West boys,” he wheezes, pointing at the edge of the map, almost off into the space beyond it, “Here there be dragons!!” The boys scoff at the demented old man. They will not allow their adventure to see  any obstacles, but he stubbornly insists he will not leave until they write it down, reluctantly, they indulge him so he will go away. He reaches deep into a filthy burlap bag and pulls out a nail, bent and obviously already used, pulls off a holey, worn shoe and nails the note to the desk. “If ye don’t heed me warning, I’ll not be seeing you again. God be with you.” He shuffles out the door into the busy street.

The boys tell their mother, Duchess Jessica their plans. Agast, she does her best to talk them out of their adventure. But alas, their is nothing she can do. They have inherited their longing for the sea from generations of mariners before themselves and have tidy sums secreted away. The generations before them discovered untold treasures and have left much for the boys so that they may follow their dreams.

here there be dragons
This card was a struggle, so many things went wrong it would take pages to tell the tales. Suffice it to say, I am happy with the final result. The map is watercoloured on kraft CS. The saying was done with JustRite Trompe upper and lower case stamps. I did the knots based on real sailors knots but then I tucked the ends back in and through a few times. The brad was distressed with the claw end of my mini hammer, I LOVE how it turned out.

In case you have never seen a really old map, about 14th century, mariners still though the world was flat. They believed that if you sailed far enough West you would fall off the earth but you likely wouldn’t make it that far because dragons and monsters of the deep would get you before you ever got to that point. This is actually written on some maps. This particular map was Nikki’s inspiration piece this week but I couldn’t send him out on an adventure without his brother could I?

I hope you will join the DareDevils in using this photo for inspiration this week. Remember, you don’t have to have nautical stamps to play, take inspiration from anything from the picture (I see beach, ocean, pirates, the colour combo of aqua~olive~red, vintage paper, hula, travel, adventure)! Pretty please visit the rest of the Team to see what they have created. Don’t forget to leave comments with some virtual {{{hugs}}}! Especially for our NEW MEMBER Randi Wall of The Dark Mermaid! Be sure she gets some extra hugs!! This week we are using DDSC7 when uploading to SCS or PCP and don’t forget to link your card’s URL up to the Whimsical Wednesdays blog so we can all find your creations!! I can’t wait to see what you and the team come up with!!

Vintage Baby Label Card

I am sick but still crafting – a little. Rotten cold, with all the diseases mankind has conquered, I find it amazing that colds still exist. Anyhow, This little card (3.25x4.25”) is for the Friends of Flourishes sketch challenge, they showed 4 versions, each being a 90 degree rotation of the previous one. I just love their stamps but honestly, I haven’t gotten around to buying them yet-too many stamps, too little time and money! I have coloured in their Nasturtiums though, that is a Copic challenge because with such bright colours, I find it difficult to still show shading. I will eventually make the images into cards and will let you decide if you like how I coloured them.

vintage baby label card

In case you are wondering, this card is for Wyatt, that’s right, I still haven’t mailed the giant clothespin photo holder I made for him. I had to make this card small because I custom made the shipping box for the clothespin and it is quite small. So the card has to be small to fit in the box! I think you can get 3 cards from a sheet when you make them this size too. Good thing because I remade this card so many times it is ridiculous!

I started with a bashful blue base but changed my mind about the colour when I found this DP. So I cut another card out of this paper, I think it is soft sky, then distressed it with Baja Breeze but it was just to bright (I hadn’t even picked the label yet!) even after adding Antique Linen Distress ink. And when I tried it out with the DP squares, the distressing on the squares melded with the card base so the squares didn’t stand out well. ****SIGH**** So that base went into the scrap pile-the other side is still good right? Then I decided to go with a scalloped chipboard circle, I pressed it into my Antique Linen ink pad but it was too yellowish, so it went back into my chipboard storage box where I will likely cover it in paper or paint sometime later. No cardstock I usually use matched so I went into my odd pieces file. Cardstock other than SU! which I don’t use much and finally found a piece that matched. Woooo Hoooo

The rest was much easier. The chipboard flourishes are covered in white paint, then distressed with Linen Distress ink but they were still too white. So I pressed the ink pad onto an acrylic block, added a tiny squirt of white Liquid Pearls, mixed it and painted it on. Now they are distressed and pearlescent, I agree, an odd combo but it works. The button is one my mom got on eBay in a huge lot. Some were broken, seconds or grungy so I got those ones, perfect for this card.

Enjoy, Rebecca

Winner of Blog Candy

I am sooooooooooo sorry I didn’t post this anywhere near the posted date. I have been so caught up with the wedding favours  that I totally forgot. (I’ll show you the final version soon.) I probably spent at least 50 hours making 180 of them. In addition to regular life, it was a lot of time. Which is also why I haven’t posted much lately. My stats for this summer were also pathetic but I did have fun with my boys at the park! Sorry for so few posts. So with no further ado, the winner is:

I found your blog when Firflies and Flutterbyes sent me. Both you gals are super creative. One of my favorite of your posts was 4-16-09Clearly Original Spring Card. The clear cards fascinate me. I tried a clear panel on a card recently that was fun. I love how you are not afraid to tell about your boo-boos when crafting. That makes us newbys feel better about not being so perfect. I've bookmarked your sight and will visit often. Would love to win the luscious blog candy. Thanks
Angie-mtscrapgal

Yep Angie, I make a LOT of boo-boos! Why not write about them if I can help someone else? That is the whole point of this blog. Please email me at rebeccacell at gmail dot com as soon as possible. Be sure to include your snail mail addy. I normally only allow 3 days for winners to contact me, but I will allow 5 days this time. If I don’t hear from you by Sunday 12MN EST, I will pick another winner.

Thank you all for your patience with me! With cold temperatures upon us, I will be indoors more so more crafting and more fun stuff to show you!!

So You Think You Can Stamp-Week 1: Wedding View Master Card

What a fun challenge from My Favourite Things! So You Think You Can Stamp, every week the theme is based on a different dance style. This week was West Cost Swing; if you aren’t familiar with it, it has a lot of tricks and lifts so this week’s card had to include a flip, spin or lift element. I decided to go with a View Master Card, I’ve made only a couple before and I made a few mistakes, OF COURSE. I should have looked up the directions again.

wedding spinner card1

I should have cut the hole first, traced it onto the wheel multiple times and then removed the wheel and stamped the sentiments. A couple are off center and one is down right crooked too. ***SIGH***  Also be sure to measure the length and width of your largest image/sentiment before creating your hole. Remember, the maximum length and width may not both be found in the same stamp. Ex: my tallest sentiment with long ascenders and descenders was not the longest. I had to measure all of them to be sure.

To create my hole with nice rounded ends, I die cut a tag shape. It was too short and I couldn’t have used it directly anyway because of another tag on the same die so I used the negative image as a template and used a craft knife to cut it out. Of course, mid-way I had to slide it over to make it long enough. I extended the lines with a ruler to make sure it was still straight after moving the template. (I had considered die cutting it twice, overlapping them to create one long cut out, you could do that if your die is a single like Nestabilities.) Just be sure when you cut your hole that it centered (if your layout is like mine) and far enough in so that the sentiments won’t show at the edges where the wheel sticks out.

BTW, When I assembled it, I put the brad in so the head is inside the card and the ends are under the focal panel so it looks decent inside. The card edges are finished with a silver paint pen. TIP: To get a perfect line, use scrap cardstock or thin chipboard to press a groove into the felt tip of your pen. Hold your paper up off the table, flex it so it isn’t floppy, place the paper in the groove and slide the pen along the paper’s edge.  When making the groove in the felt tip, if you do it off center, you can even have two grooves, each different depths for different widths of lines.

I meant to add Tiny Twinkles to the scallops on the dress so I will go back and add them. I may also put one in her hair.

Frog Celebration for Whimsical Wednesdays

What a cute inspiration photo! Thanks to Nicky for this one, apparently he loves frogs. The photo is from www.cupcakestakethecake.blogspot.com, THANKS to them for letting us use their yummies as inspiration.

Frog Cupcakes

I decided to go with a super simple one-layer card. Well mostly, does it count as one layer if the frog is separate and popped up? Not much time to craft tonight. Yep, I know, I should have used a Stamp Positioner to stamp the ‘celebrate’ but since I am typing this right after I made it at almost 4am I hope you will forgive me! Be sure to play along with this challenge because there is a ***PRIZE*** this week. Marie of the Greeting Farm is giving away a stamp set, Down by the Pond to one random participant.  YEAH FUN!!!

To enter, create a project and upload it to PCP or SCS with DDSC5 or upload to your blog. Either way, leave a comment on this week’s post with a link to your creation and be entered. Need some inspiration? Visit the DareDevils this week! We are all playing except Cassie and Debbie, Heather’s card maybe a bit late because her kiddos are sick so if you are an early riser, check back a bit later in the day.

In case you are wondering how I did the frame, I first decided what size I wanted the border, 1/2”. That leaves a ‘frame’ size of 3.25” x 4.5”. I cut that size from heavy chipboard and traced around it to create the frame with my marker. I figured if I tried to use a ruler, I’d end up smudging the bit of marker that inevitable gets on the ruler and I was also worried I’d overshoot the corners. Because I used chipboard, any excess ink from the marker would soak into the paper and with an exact corner to trace, no overshoot!

Enjoy, Rebecca

***** WORLD CARD MAKING DAY!! *****

Yeah, it is finally here! I am going to keep this short because I know a few of you visiting here are going to blog hop all day! Two cards today, a great guy card BELOW, be sure to scroll down.

Card 1.
fanfold lace circle cardI used Weekend Sketch Challenge 99. The first card I saw made with this sketch used a full circle, hanging off the edge, instead of wsc99 just a partial circle. I am kinda a fan of going beyond the edges. Check out HERE. The lace was pre-pleated, I ran a basting thread along one edge and pulled it until the lace formed a circle, you can do this with unpleated lace and ribbon too. The sentiment is part of a SU! wheel, I unmounted it and cut apart the sentiments according to the directions HERE.

RECIPE
Ink:
chocolate chip-SU!, worn lipstick and antique linen Distress ink, old olive-SU!
Stamps: friendship wheel-SU!
Paper: unknown DP, Bazzil CS (dark brown), old olive CS-SU!

Card 2.
youve got a friend in meI saw a really cute card yesterday with multiple circles sewn on to the card. Sorry, I don’t remember where. I took the idea and changed it just a wee bit, using fewer elements and changing them to stars. This is another sentiment from the Friendship wheel. Cute button isn’t it? Must be laser etched the work on it is so finely detailed.

I hope you will visit some more of my cards. Feel free to scroll down and if you really love a card, don’t forget to book mark that post, leave a comment and VISIT AGAIN!

Enjoy World Card Making Day! Rebecca
