Stripes n Roses

This is a very late entry for the PTI Blog Hop today.

I used the Sweet Life stamp set and dies for the roses and painted the stripes with Gansai Tambi water colours. These are perfect for bold stripes as they aren’t as transparent as most professional water colours. I used Bristol smooth paper for the first time and I was impressed that it didn’t warp much.

The label shape dies are by Lifestyle Crafts; the cardstock is also by PTI. I tried writing the sentiment with gold leafing paint with a small brush but I’m much, much better with a dip ink pen. I should have used my gold ink and pen instead. Oh well.

Winter Feathers n Tea Card for the Winter Coffee Lovers Bloghop

Today I’m showing you a card for the quarterly Coffee (or tea or cocoa) Lovers Bloghop! I just got the new Vintage Tea Cup set from Altenew and it was perfect for my card for today.

The paper is from the new Winter Wonderland paper pack by Simple Stories. It has the most lovely soft blue-greens in it. Fortunately for me, Ocean Tides by PTI matches perfectly! So I die cut my tea cup from this colour except the inside which I paper pieced in with ivory cardstock. By embossing the cup it made it easier to line up the liquid image stamp because you can overlap it slightly and not worry about it. I accented the teacup with BG 70, 72 and 75 Copic markers. The flowers on the teacup were stamped using images from Beautiful Day.

The feathers are by PTI also, I stamped them in kraft, ocean tides and chocolate ink with a little Hero Arts soft pool on the aqua feather. I did lots of layers of stamping using my MISTI to get the stripes and  ombre looks within each feather. For the dots, I used the stamps provided but when I stamped them, they looked too perfect. So I stamped each dot then inked my stamp again, stamping a bit to each side creating more of an oval. I also tried tilting my stamp block (not the MISTI) to only get about 2/3 of the dot then reinking and stamping the opposite side of the stamp, using only 2/3 of it again which makes sort of an oval as well. It was easier to do this last technique with the larger dots.

Flourishes and Imagine Crafts Cyber Monday Blog Hop

Since it was my Anniversary on Friday and our attempts to celebrate were interrupted by a sick kiddo, please leave a comment for hubby and me!

I started by creating a background using Brilliance Galaxy Gold pigment ink, sponging it through a stencil. Then I added some sponged inks to coordinate with the colour of the butterflies on the patterned paper. I inked the edges of the pink text packaging with Memento Rich Cocoa dye ink to distress it lightly. Enlarge the photo to see how  I added some Celestial Copper pigment ink to the edges of the scalloped cork circle and Brilliance Pearlescent Olive pigment ink to the center. More gold ink was added to the edges of some of the paper layers for extra shine.

The focal image is from Year of Flowers 1, coloured with Copics. I used non-traditional crocus colours, who says art has to be accurate after all??! I decided to match  the colouring to the shades of the butterflies so I used yellow and pink.

Some details to notice: friend sticker (the light is hitting it strangely because it’s a glossy, puffy sticker, it’s underneath the tulip), mirrored cardstock hearts, Copic coloured wood veneer heart and ephemera: tag, ticket, pretty packaging from embellishments (pink text) and music paper. There are three colours of twine on the tag all knotted separately. I’ve never done that before and I love it. There are mulberry roses, sequins, gems and mini pompom lace. The final touch was the thanks sentiment cut from gold textured art paper.

Navy and Pink PTI Blog Hop

Welcome to another PTI Blog Hop! My card was made when I was very tired this morning, I got up early because I couldn’t sleep, so please forgive a lack of inspiration. Overall though, I think it’s a pretty card worth posting.

I really wish PTI made a cardstock that was about halfway between blush and hibiscus and not peachy/coral like Melon Berry and Berry sorbet. Then I would have used that for the sentiment panel and the flowers would stand out more. IRL the sponging on the edges of the flowers shows more and they stand out from the background a bit better.

Such a gorgeous inspiration photo right? The flowers were made with a die from Memory Box and I took the time to shape them nicely before adding them to the card. I should have sponged them before shaping them though so I will make a note to myself for next time. Not only did they not sponge very smoothly but the tiny tab used to keep the flower 3-D

I love making lots of types of cards but I find myself using get well and thanks most so I love having lots of choices of sentiment in these two categories. This set, Healing Touch Sentiments, has lots of options. I am dying to get a Get Well die though. Anyone know of one? The only one I can find, from Hero Arts, isn’t in a font I like too well.

I used Cardabilities sketch 121 for this card. Isn’t it awesome? They have the best sketches for all cards but especially shabby chic ones.

Bead Hoarders Blog Hop

I pulled out some beads I’ve been meaning to use and made a necklace and a bracelet.

I have to admit, these pieces don’t use special, hoarded beads. But I haven’t been amassing a stash for very long and the only beads I’ve had for a while are super boring and on their way to donation. There’s a difference between old and hoarded. The former is kept though their usefulness is pretty much over because we hope they might come back in style or we might need them again and the latter are saved for a really special project. Lots of oldish, not so much hoarded.

This one is made from Swarovski pearls and crystals. I bought them to go with a strand of tourmaline chips. I should have known better than to buy chips. I love when other people use them but I never seem to get them right. I tried to make the necklace I saw in my head but it just didn’t look right. The chips were too big and the Swarovskis too small. They were too close to the same size. As I unstrung the necklace, I ‘saw’ this! Yeah! So lovely. I know it’s pretty simple but I’m happy.

I saw a book or video ad for jewelry made from copper tubing and I was so inspired! This is made from about 6” of copper tubing formed into a bangle shape. I rounded the raw ends, filed them and punched a hole. I wrapped some awesome fabric around the bangle and held it in place initially with a clothespin and then permanently with 20g copper wire. While wrapping, I added some Swarovski crystals; they look clear but are actually silver shade. Lastly, I hung some Czech crystal dangles on jump rings which I attached to the ends.

8th Do Over Challenge and Znet Shows Jewelry

Welcome to anyone new to my blog! I’ve joined a blog hop today and the theme is a do over challenge. Jeannie, a jewelry designer, has offered some of her old pieces for us to redesign. All we had to do was pay shipping, promise to use at least 50% of the beads in the piece and blog about it today! I was provided with this necklace and earrings.

For my first piece, Heathered Elegance below, I used the large amethyst nuggets and the tiny green nugget beads, maybe peridot? but it is much darker than any peridot I’ve seen and also includes some dark flecks. I added the filigree with wire guardians so the wire wouldn’t lose it’s coating or even fray. I gently shaped it with bracelet bending pliers to give it a nice curve.

I used the original clasp though I reshaped it to make it shorter (my bracelet was getting too long), the original beading wire and some gold Czech druk beads along with Znetshows Chinese crystals, rondelles in two sizes and colours, Champagne and a lovely deep purple.

I also made earrings to match. You can see the gorgeous purple rondelles better here. I love the sparkle!

Next I made a necklace using the coral coloured nuggets from the necklace. They may be real (dyed) coral, I’m not sure. I added some stick pearls and tiny teal beads (some gemstone but I forget what they are). The pendant is a Cultured sea glass piece also from Znetshows. I love this pale Coke bottle colour. It goes with so many things. I made the bail with 20 gauge silver wire.

Last but not least, I made a bracelet with the bronze pearls, antique bronze charm and grey/green gemstones. I call it Bronze Age. The gemstones are pretty interesting, at first they seem quite ordinary but in the light, they have lovely iridescent flecks like tiny opal chips deep inside. I only added the smoky quartz flat briolettes and clasp. It’s way too big for me but I thought shortening it would mess up the rhythm of the piece so I guess I’ll give it to or sell it to someone else.

Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

Funny thing is, I don’t love coffee at all! But I love my coffee stamps so I think that qualifies! :)

I sure hope the colours are accurate on this photo. I had trouble with that on my last post even though I edited it as usual. I used a background stamp I’ve had for so long I have no idea who manufactured it. I embossed it with brown EP on water colour paper and then added various inks to ‘watercolour’ it. Then I added the embellishment cluster which includes some cheese cloth.

I couldn’t decide what sort of sentiment to use but I finally settled on a thank you. I intend to give this to my girlfriend who is very generous with babysitting when I ask her on a coffee date to thank her.
