Vintage Music Card

It was super exciting to see this week’s challenge at Crazy 4 Challenges! I love music and have a friend who will love this card.

The background is a dark grey with translucent embossing paste stenciled on it. I also added some stamping on it with black ink. Gorgeous papers right?  From a Theresa Collins pack called Summer Stories.

This is for Crazy 4 Challenges but I’m also entering it in a couple more challenges. Mojo Monday and Simon Says Stamp are both faves of mine. I hope you can play with us this week. Did you know we pretty much have no rules? You can make any type of project, join as many other challenges as you want and no follow or commenting rules. We do love comments though!

Enjoy, Rebecca

Big Rose Bouquet

I was very inspired by last week’s Fusion challenge. The flowers are so beautiful don’t you agree?

Fusion truck bouquet

My card uses three sets, from Altenew and PTI, to create my own version of the bouquet.

Even though I obviously wasn’t able to create nearly as many flowers as in the bouquet, I tried to recreate the colours found in the bouquet. It’s funny, I rarely try to recreate an inspiration photo but this time I just wanted to try it. The silver that you see at the top is actually the inside of the card. The card base is white but I added a Soft Stone full sized panel inside. It didn’t seem to have enough contrast with the card base so I sponged on some silver ink.

The sparkle from the silver ink was just enough to make this card pop. The colours in this photo are much more like it looks in real life. For some reason the other photo is much more faded looking. Maybe because I forgot my lens hood?

Tea Cup

This week we were challenged to make a tea or coffee themed card. I love making tea cards; I had quite a few stamp sets and papers I could use. But I finally decided on this tea set from Altenew for our Crazy 4 Challenges blog post.

I embossed this stamp set with platinum embossing powder on Prima paper then hand cut it. I used Copic markers to shade it for some depth. The tag was stamped with Tiny Tags by PTI; I just got it, so cute! The rest is pretty simple; some patterned paper, die cut leaves and frame, flowers and sequins.

I hope you get a chance to play along with us at Crazy 4 Challenges. We have such fun themes don’t you think?

Having Fun and Lovin’ Life!

I was super busy working on some more design team work on Friday when I made this card. So I went super simple but it was fun to use some paper from an old card kit from Simon Says Stamp. I’ve gotta use them up because I swear they are having babies they seem to multiply so fast!

c4c lovin life squares

I love it when a paper collection includes what I call ‘cut apart sheets’. You know the ones with the little squares on them that are meant to be separated into pieces and used as journaling cards, titles or accents? This pad included an entire sheet of these small squares. I chose three for this card. I thought it might make a good encouragement card (not for something really serious of course) or even just to say Hi!

C4C381Sketch

I used the sketch for Crazy 4 Challenges for this card. Every month we do a sketch from one of our members on the third week. It’s a fabulous sketch full of possibilities; to see some of them head on over to our blog! Whether you are bursting with ideas or have only one, be sure to play along with us by making a card or project and linking it up!

Penguin Wobble & Shaker Card

You know how a duck seems so still above the water but is paddling like mad underneath? That’s how I feel lately! I’ve been working really hard on cards for the SplitcoastStampers Dirty Dozen but I can’t show them here yet. I can’t wait until I can! (Want to see them now? Sign up today!) My blog totally doesn’t reflect all the work I’ve done and cards I’ve made! I haven’t forgotten about all you faithful readers! I promise!

Today however, I have a cute card for you for Crazy 4 Challenges. Our theme is zoo animals or just animals in general if you don’t have any wild ones.

c4c penguin shaker

This is a super fun, double interactive card! The penguin looks slightly distorted because he is perched atop a Wobble Spring! This one for some reason seems to angle upwards with the head close to the card base and the bottom up in the air! (maybe I played with it a little too much??? hee hee!!!) The ice floe was hand drawn, I don’t have a stamp to use for it but I think it turned out ok!

c4c penguin shaker2

Who says you have to stop with just one fun thing to play with on your card? I added a shaker to this card as well! It’s even a double sided shaker. What you see through the window is the inside of the card. To make it look finished inside, I added a reverse ice floe behind the one on the front. I just traced the first one flipped over and drew in the interior lines. When I write a message I’ll use the inside ice floe and the mirrored space next to it (where you would usually write your message) and just be careful that my writing doesn’t go into the shaker area. But my 5 yo insisted and I make him a card (he made me one) so this may be appropriated well before I have a chance to send it to anyone else.

The shaker is full of snowflakes, blue and silver sequins, tiny silver confetti and some clear gems that to me look like ice PLUS a couple of penguin friends for my wobble penguin! I hope you had fun seeing my card! Do you have time to play along with us this week! I sure hope so because this was so fun! (Have I said it enough?? Fun Fun FUN!!!) If you get the SSS card kit, this penguin was in this month’s kit along with some other adorable WILD!! critters!

Rainbow Hugs!

Sounds pretty good right although I can’t exactly picture what that would look like. Oh I know, like this…

c4c rainbow hugs shaker

Our challenge today at Crazy 4 Challenges was to use rainbows! Or just use a lot of colours. When I read that, I thought of my youngest 2 son’s kindergarten teacher. Did I ever tell you about her? I once asked her what her favourite colour was as I planned to make her a bracelet for a gift. (I didn’t tell her why though.) She told me it was rainbows! Isn’t that the cutest thing ever? So perfect for her job right? Anyway, this may be her end of the year card instead of a traditional teacher card. I’m sure they get so bored of those. BTW, she loves the bracelet I made her with rainbow crystals and it’s her favourite still, 5 years later!

I used  Becca Feeken die by Spellbinders for the main shaker area. Doesn’t it cut out a lovely cathedral-like window? I have lots of plans for this die. I love that it comes as just the cutouts because that gives so much more versatility for anyone with circle dies. You can leave it as is or cut it out to make a medallion or even cut it out with a fancy circle or square die. The set comes with a fancy square die to cut it out too.

The background is blended with various Distress and PTI inks to make a soft pastel rainbow. The card base is stamped with PTI Newsprint stamps again in rainbow colours. It’s a bit hard to see with all of the sequins but it helps fill in the background a bit. I used sequins from Lucy’s Little Things, the dollar store and Etsy. I probably pulled from 8 or more of my little storage bins! This would be a great way to use up some odd sequins.

I hope you can come by and play along with our team. We have quite a few new members who would love a welcome and now there is a ton more inspiration for you to enjoy!

Spring 2017 Coffee Lovers Bloghop!

I am just under the wire for posting this! I love making cards for this bloghop that is held once each season, 4 times per year.

coffee lovers spring

I’ve been doing way too many CAS cards lately for my shabby loving heart to be satisfied. So lately I’ve been working my way back to bows, flowers and fancy die cuts.

coffee possible spring hop 17

Isn’t this totally me? I paper pieced the cups using the Simon Says Coffee and Tea stamp set. The lids are Copic coloured to help them match the cups and labels. I added some coloured leaves, flowers, a couple of wood embellies and a little shaped paper clip. Some twine and a sentiment stamped in cute colours (thank you Mme. MISTI) completes this shabby card. Oh and I tucked in an epoxy brad too. It was a bit aged from the sun (I have tons of light in my craft room) but since I was using vintage papers with ivory undertones, it all worked out just fine.
