Lily of the Valley for Doodle Pantry

More colouring! I think I might enjoy deciding what colour the flowers are going to be more than I love colouring the flowers. OK, well maybe not more but this choice was really easy! There are only pink and white lilies of the valley and I went traditional. I think it would make a great wedding card!

I couldn’t decide what DP to use. Green overwhelmed the leaves making them blend in. All the colours I tried, even pastels seemed too strong for tiny white flowers. So I went with all white. I mean, why not? It is elegant and sweet.  The background is scored in a diamond pattern to give some texture. I haven’t done this before and I see it over and over again and never get to trying it so here it is! Finally! And I got to try my pansy Punch-Around-The-Page rather than just using the border punch.

Snapdragon Bookmark for Doodle Pantry

Another combination project here. I used the fabulous snapdragon image from Doodle Pantry along with a swap for Swap-Bot to make an encouraging quote bookmark.

Yep, I know, there is no quote on it. I hope it was OK to put it on the back and darn it if I didn’t forget to take a photo of the back. It is a quote from Oprah, something about everyday having the opportunity to kick off your shoes and dance. I really like that one because way too many people take life way too seriously and forget to stop and have fun!

I hope my partner likes it! If you haven’t checked out Doodle Pantry, be sure to head on over there to check out the fabulous images Laurie has drawn. This one was really easy to colour and there are zillions of colours and colour combos available for snapdragons. Just Google snapdragons and then click on images at the top for photos only! This colour combo was easily my favourite.

TIP: When colouring pale flowers, be sure to add a wash of colour around them to help them stand out from the paper.  Here I contrasted the peachy pink with a bluish green wash. Try using a colour that is opposite (or close) on the colour wheel. Green is the opposite of red (pink) on the colour wheel but I chose bluish green because I like how this colour looks as a wash. For purple, use yellow and vice versa. For blue, use peach, for green use pink… You get the idea. When using Copics, use a colour that ends on 0, 00 or 01. Go around the outline of the flowers and don’t forget to fill in any gaps between the flowers too. Then blend the edge out to white with the blender pen.

Flame Mermaid ATC for Whimsical Wednesdays ETA: Butterfly Mermaid Card

Wow, time got away from me like crazy today. I am not used to spending the whole day out on Tuesdays as I usually take it easy since it is my church night. It is all I can do to make it there on time some days so I try not to add anything much to Tuesdays. This time however, the night was switched to Thursday and so Spencer and I went to the park, for ice cream and did a few errands. I hardly slept last night so when we got home, we had a bath and a long nap and I am still tired. I know, get to the ATC already. I just wanted to explain why I have only an ATC and not a full card to show you today. I am going to turn the other ATC I did into a card later today and add it to this post in the afternoon.

I coloured this one for a Non-Cutesy Mermaid swap on Swap-Bot. It was actually a lot more vibrant IRL if you can believe that. I tried different lighting including sunlight but I just couldn’t capture it. Oh well.

ETA: Here is the card I am finally getting to post at 11PM, eek!

 
This is the ATC I did that became my feature image for this card. It was going to be for a PRO Artists ATC swap (yep, I was accepted!) but it wasn’t quite PRO enough for me yet it was just asking me to do something with it. For all of you who think ATCs are cool but don’t know what to do with them, this is it! Trade ‘em with your friends and then challenge each other to make cards with ‘em. It is fun, I promise! Although it looks like the background here is white, it is actually a pale blue with purple tones to it, B60. A lighter version of the colour I used for the leaves made from dotted lines (click for a larger image) in the top left corner. Is that seaweed? or is she on land and that is a hanging vine?

Anyway, I used Heather’s DD, Piper’s sketch. According to the notes she had her mom include, the butterfly image was not required nor were all 4 of the corner butterflies. So cute huh?

Thanks to Sweet Pea stamps for being our Sponsor this month. I would NEVER have bought them but I am having SO MUCH FUN colouring them and I am SOOO GLAD to have them!! It is so freeing colouring a fantasy image that really has no rules for the colouring. I like to keep the skin tones natural, that’s just me but other than that… anything goes.

1. I used to sew custom bras but don’t anymore because after so many bras, one looks just like the next… boring.

2. My mom has blonde hair and my dad is dark. I have dark hair and hubby is blonde. Mom swore up and down that after she had three dark-haired girls, I couldn’t possibly have blonde babies. Both of my kids are blonde! (If you want to know the genetics of it, email me as it gets a bit long.)

3. I know about the genetic stuff because I used to be a Registered Nurse.

4. I no longer work as a Registered Nurse because I have lupus (see sidebar for link). I am still registered but I can’t work.

5. I have two beautiful little boys who are healthy despite my lupus, they is my greatest blessing in life! (and they are blonde!)

7. I listed how many crafts I’ve tried (and managed to learn decently) when I applied for a job as Craft Reporter with Craft Critique. It was over 30! I love learning new things and moving  on. Only paper crafting/stamping/scrapping and sewing have taken for any length of time.

8. I love almost any genre of movie. Anything from romantic to horror including and especially zombie movies to action and ‘guy’ flicks. It has to be Satanic/demonic before I won’t at least check it out.

9. Hubby is taking the little one to his parents and the older one is on a trip with nana so I can watch any movie I want this weekend!!!!

10. I am going to be lonely this weekend…

Stone Wall Garden for Doodle Pantry

I love the images I get to use for this design team. This one took ages to colour but I sure think it was worth it!

(Please let me know if this picture looks too dark, I find it so hard to know when I have only a laptop with a screen that of course adjusts angle which changes how bright or dark the picture looks.)

I coloured the bricks different colours then muted and blended them all with my colourless blender. I’d give you all the colours but it seems one of my two boys has deleted quite a few files in my iPhone where I kept my colours listed. I had at least 10 or 12 files in there and they are gone! GRRRR!!!! I put that thing down and one or the other is on it in about 2 seconds!

Anyhow, back to the card. I think I used virtually every brown, green and grey in my set of Ciao Copics and a couple other greens. It was fun trying to come up with combos that kept all of the different greenery looking different from each other.
