Mermaid for Whimsical Wednesdays

What a fun week for creating! Last Tuesday, way too late to create another card, I received my awesome stamps from Sweet Pea Stamps. In case you haven’t heard about them, here is a little bit of info.

I loved colouring this stamp. I usually do either soft or vintage colouring so this was quite the fun and colourful departure!

I decided to use some awesome but very BRIGHT DoubleMates paper for the card base and the mats. DoubleMates are a series of cardstock papers with TWO colours, one on each side. I wish I had turned the purple paper over to reveal the darker side which could have been sanded to reveal the lighter side. This way, I would have had to sand almost all the way through  to get the dark purple to show through. Both layers for the mats are actually from the same piece of two-sided cardstock.

I have been the WORST blogger!

I can’t believe how few times I’ve posted in the last while. To be fair, I do have a needy three year old with chicken pox but still… Anyway, I am going to include a few items in this post, not my usual style but why not!?

Girl ATC Swap-Bot

This was for a swap requiring a girl or woman on the ATC. I used a an architectural stamp and a script stamp for the background and embossed them with gold powder. The girl was stamped and Copic coloured'; I deliberately made her with medium skin so her race was indeterminate. The pearls were a strand that were already glued together, how fun and easy! The ‘dress’ is ombre ribbon I’ve had forever, I’m glad I finally have a use for it.

Mickey Mouse ATC Swap

I paper pieced Mickey’s face and eyes, colouring in his tongue. The embossing was done with a powder painting technique where you pour on one colour of powder, flick it off and then pour on another. I thought it really suited the razzle dazzle that is all things Disney! I coloured in the star and Mickey word with Spica pen, then wished I hadn’t. Oh well!

Sarah’s Travel Themed Post-It Note Cover

I made this Post-It note cover for my sister who loves to travel. I made it thin enough to put in a purse. Normally I make these 1/4” thick but this one is just 1/8” thick. I made one similar for me and it fits in the pocket of my Bible’s leather cover. This one uses stickers from Making Memories and I’m not sure of the girl ones plus some stamps I’ve had for ages. I didn’t add a tie to the ribbon because I was keeping down the bulk and I was concerned about fraying.

Adorable Baby Goat for Clearly Delightful Blog Challenge and Doodle Pantry

I am so excited to reveal that I am now on the Doodle Pantry Design Team! Laurie Wilson draws the best images and she is selling them in her own little store: Doodle Pantry. I am in LOVE with the image I got to use for this month’s release, Baby Goat.

I decided an image this babyish had to be put on a card in the softest blues and greens I could find, especially since that is Laurie’s blog challenge this month, use blue and green in your project. Each month Laurie has a challenge on her blog, if you play, you get a free digi image! I played before and got the nicest images, good quality and so easy to use! You can even use Word or Publisher to print them out, no need for fancy or difficult to use software. Oven Thank You for Whimsical Wednesdays

My mom and dad are renovating their kitchen so they gave us their stove which is much nicer than what we had. So I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to make a thank you card using a fabulous sketch from a special young lady.

I know my mom will ADORE this cute paper from Thrift Shop just like I do. I kind of wish I had used chalk ink for the sentiment so it stood out more but I added the buttons to draw the eye to it.

Isn’t this a great sketch? So detailed for a kid! This one is the work of Katie, Team Member Andrea’s daughter. I am definitely going to save this one. We are going to have some more sketches from Team Members kids this month. We also have a NEW SPONSOR! this month, Sweet Pea stamps. I have to thank Randi for arranging for us each to receive THREE actual RUBBER STAMPS!! Thanks for the stamps Sweet Pea! I only got mine this afternoon living in the boonies here in Canada (kidding! I only live 40 minutes from Toronto!) so I will create with mine next week!

Floral Gratitude Shaped Card

This card is for two challenges; the first is for  Paper, Scissors and Superheros  Go-To Sketches online bonus sketch challenge. The other is the Moxie Fab World Tuesday Trigger: That’s In the Bag.

I used the colours from the Bag inspiration photo. The flower was coloured with Copics: R11, 81, 85, RV19, Y35. The ribbon is actually two layers, white sheer overlaid with Battenberg lace tape. If you look carefully, you will see that my buttons are threaded with pink thread in a sort of a flower pattern.
