Laugh Out Loud for Whimsical Wednesdays and a HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT

I had such fun with this inspiration photo! And I LOVE that quote.

photo
I was so inspired by the way the plants around the outside reach into the center that I tried to recreate it. And such wonderful bright colours!

clear floral card
If you’ve never made a clear card, you should think about sandwiching your clear acetate between your paper layers, mats and embellishments. clear floral card insideHere, the wavy paper is on the inside with most of the adhesive under the oval and flower. The pink layer is also on the inside of the front of the card with the glittery side showing through the front. The white CS writing area is inside the card back and the patterned paper layer is on the back. This way, all of the adhesive remains hidden.I also used Mojo Monday 141 and Skipping Stones Design Sketches considering they were very similar. I love it when I can do three or more challenges at the same time!

clear floral card back

The ovals I used are all much larger than any template or Nestability I own (Nesties don’t come larger). So here is how I got larger ovals.

I have a set of these little metal disks from a fine woodworking store. They are great for adding a set amount to a curved edge. clear floral card mat layerYou insert a pencil into the center of the disk and draw your line. SU! used to sell a small one of these. I used these for the pink cardstock layer and the DP layer. The inner oval was also traced because I wanted to exclude all of those flowers and it would have taken longer to trim them using the ‘out of the box’ technique.

OK, so now for the HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT. This is the only week in June that we will be having a challenge. You must create a project inspired by the photo above. You have until June 20 8 PM CST. I that is 9 PM EST. You may enter as many times as you like and the more you do, the more likely you are to win!! So what are you playing for???

Little Bits You Need to Know… like 2 Blog Candy Opportunities and One Contest!

First off, I WON the May Arts contest with my luminaria! YEAH! If you missed it, be sure to check it out here. I got to choose 3 FULL SPOOLS of ribbon. Woo Hoo!! I choose wide white silk, ditto in ivory and white crocheted ribbon. Sounds a bit boring but I don’t want a zillion yards of pink, purple and yellow polka dots now do I? With my Copics, I basically have 147 colour possibilities! I can’t wait to get it. I also won the opportunity to be their guest blogger this month! I get to make any project I like for them and I can request ribbon to make it. Problem is, I can’t choose! Too many ideas. So, if you suggest something and I use your idea, I will send you three yards of each ribbon I am getting!! Please give me as many ideas as you can think of for more chances to win. Please don’t say ‘make a card’ unless you have a very specific idea associated with it. :) Duh! Please enter on this post by December 22nd.

One of the lovely members of the Whimsical Wednesday’s  team has generously offered a prize for playing the sketch this week. One random participant will win a single unmounted image from the Sweet Pea Fantasy Art Collection by Ching-Chou-Kuik plus one of her cards. To see the stamps at Sweet Pea, visit www.sweetpeastamps.com. Fun right? So be sure to play!! Click to see the sketch. (For some reason my direct hyperlinks aren’t working so here is the link.) http://eclecticendeavours.blogspot.com/2009/12/purple-tulips-for-whimsical-wednesdays.html There is no challenge next week so the prize will be awarded the following week. We are taking a week off for the holidays.

I’ve been updating my Etsy store. I’ve finally started to sell some items. I guess patience really pays off! Please don’t forget to tell your family and friends about my store. Obviously you like my work enough to visit so please share the love!

Thanks for reading. I love getting comments! I know I missed my blogaversary so in January, I will be having another blog candy opportunity! To enter, leave me comments between now and January 10. I will let my son choose the winning day and from those I will pick a comment so be sure to leave nice ones. Each comment is another opportunity to win! Sometime in the week after Jan 10th, I’ll announce a winner! Be sure your comments link to your email or leave it in your comment. The prize will be some ribbon from my prize spools and I’ll toss in a few other things. Best wishes!

Thank You For the Shower Gift Card Set

Be sure to enter for my blog candy HERE.

I am so sorry that I haven’t posted anything new for so long. BAD BLOGGER!! I was just so busy with my photography class – which is going wonderfully—thanks for asking! I would recommend it to anyone who needs to brush up or learn about their SLR camera from scratch. And I can’t even begin to tell you how many hours I spent (20+ I guess??) on that mini album for the bridal shower but I got it done, all 22 or 24 pages of it.

Want to hear a bummer? The bride-to-be figured out the surprise and was there before me and a lot of other guests. Wanna know what the first page of the album was titled? “Surprize!” URGH!!! Nerts!! I will be sure and let you see all of the album as I fill in the photos. For now, here are a couple of cards I made her as thank you for her shower gifts. There were 8 in total, 3 red-based, 4 white-based and the lingerie card I showed in my last project post.

These are basically the same card, I dressed up the top of the white one because it looked too boring with plain white at the top. They make an awesome gift, especially in a nice clear box, matching cardstock box or one of Lauren’s Timeless Templates!

I have to admit, I wanted to use all riding hood red but I just couldn’t. I have so little left and I really love it! I just couldn’t use up most of my remaining sheets, especially as card bases. Now that I think about it, if I hadn’t been rushing, I could have used white bases and just cut the upper part only in red. I just didn’t have the time because I THOUGHT it was a surprise and I HAD to get there before the guest of honour so I wouldn't ruin the surprise. And I am ALWAYS late, not by much, just 5 or 10 minutes most times but if I had also gotten lost…  **SIGH** Sorry  about the photo of the white card, I should have used a coloured back drop but I was crazy rushing to get them done… It was white backdrop or no card picture! (BTW, the shower itself was really fun!)

Enjoy, Rebecca

Blog Candy Deadline Extended

Hi Everyone! Seems this is a bad time of year to offer blog candy! I’ve only had one person play the sketch so far and I was definitely hoping for more. And the next few weeks just get busier as parents get their kids off to school. So I am extending the deadline until the Monday after school starts here in Canada. The new deadline for posting to your blog to earn entries is September 10th. The final deadline is September 14th.

PLEASE READ all of the blog contest details carefully. I can only give you entries if you include all the required elements. To enter, please visit THIS post.

I am so sorry for so few posts this last while. I have been burning the midnight oil making a scrapbook for a bridal shower this Friday and working on my Maggie Holmes photography class. Completely engrossing and time consuming. I promise I will post all of the pages once the book is done. Then I have a set of thank you cards to design, a baby gift to make and a wedding album to do, favours for the same wedding… AH, but I love it! Must…find…time…to…sleep. (think the stilted speech of Captain Kirk, hee hee)

Thanks, Rebecca

I've Got Blog Candy to Give Away!

ETA - Aug 12: I have added a COPIC SKETCH MARKER!! YG03!

ETA - Aug 15th: With only 3 entries so far, I may delay the contest, reposting it for the week after school starts. Seems everyone is too busy to visit!

I have a lot to celebrate! My hubby was on strike and it is over, finally! Fortunately, we didn't fair too badly financially because as an essential service, paramedic, he still worked 75%. I'm suffering withdrawal from ordering goodies from the internet though! My blog has over 10,000 hits, actually over 12,000 by now and I just went over 200 posts in less than a year! So, blog candy is in order!

So what are we playing for? How about A COPIC SKETCH MARKER YG03, 20 yards of mixed ribbon and ric-rack, a grab bag of unmounted rubber, SU! die cut tags and two favour boxes, a package of felt flowers, a generous mix of brads, eyelets, butterfly charms, pearls and beads and a brand new package of bright pink Scrapper’s Floss for your paper crafting pleasure! Oh, and some turquoise faux suede cording, envelope seals and two little word bubble embellishments. Pretty good, huh?
