SAF Red Carpet Challenge

I’m afraid I am not decent enough to wear my bracelet or hold up a card and take a photo of myself. That’s why I love blogging, I can do it in my PJs!

saf wrap up

So here is a pic of all my SAF projects. So far anyway. I might try the last one, the Make It Work challenge tomorrow.

Enjoy, Rebecca

SAF Runway Inspired Challenge

Again, Melissa astonishes me with the gorgeous things she comes up with!

saf 15 runway insp

The dress she chose with it’s vintage flair and soft colours was perfect. I also loved another dress for this challenge but I couldn’t find any papers to match.

vintage dress

This one was easy to find things for; most of my stash could be used to make a card like this!

SAF Pins and Needles Challenge

I am a huge fan of trinket pins. I love the way Melissa uses them so I was excited for this challenge.

saf 15 tag pin

I tucked this one into my bow then bent the rest of the pin with jewelry pliers so it was flush with the back of the tag. I am going to add a backing to the tag later so it is covered up. The green paper is a little heart tag but it’s hard to see with the flower on there.

SAF Unconventional Materials Challenge

Before I tell you what I used, can you guess?

saf 15 unusual materials

Sorry the card is dark again, I struggle with lighting the pale colours properly!

So, have you guessed???

I used mesh drywall tape on my card then applied drywall paste over top. Before applying the paste, I tinted it with Copic refill in 4 different shades. I overlapped them for an ombre effect. Then I removed the tape. It worked really well especially since the drywall tape has built in adhesive!

I also used a washer that I covered in gold paint pen under the flower. This card features the thread nests I mentioned earlier. I had to use  lot for it to stick out from under such a large panel. But I LOVE how it turned out.

The washers were about 75c each and the drywall tape was $4. I have no idea how much the drywall paste was because we already had it on hand, but since I only used a teensy bit, it wouldn’t have been worth more than a few cents.

SAF Mix n Match Challenge

This one was a breeze for me. I use lots of patterned papers together all the time!

saf 15 mix n match

I kept it very simple this time and copied one of the sketched used in the video. I was running low on time and it saved me thinking about what to make.

SAF Accessories Challenge

I’m afraid this one didn’t go so well for me. The stupid popsicle stick didnt want to curve nicely and everything I could find to shape it around was too big. In the end, I think that the stick I found must be much shorter than the ones used in the video because mine isn’t long enough to wrap around.

saf 15 bracelet

It did turn out pretty though I thought. I used mulberry paper to cover the bracelet and some random gems I saved.

Enjoy, Rebecca

SAF Threads

I LOVE using thread to make thread nests as per Laura in her video. But I like ‘em much more messy than Miss Laura! But for this one, I used the twine. I made some thread nests in later projects.

saf 15 threads

I used three types of twine in three different ways on this card. I loved the buttons with the twine looped though them so much that I had to use three!

In case you are wondering, yes, hubby likes it. It’s a thank you for painting our bathroom!

Enjoy, Rebecca

SAF Patterns Challenge

This was a fun challenge. I love the inspiration card by Betsy.

saf 15 patterns

I didn’t have most of what she used so I had to improvise.

I hope you like it. Much more to post so see you in a few!

Stamp-a-Faire Bridal Challenge

One of my favourite parts of Project Runway is when they have a bridal challenge.

I know the photo is kind of dark but I had to take it that way to show the detail.

I hope you are also enjoying SAF. I have lots more to post so I am going to be brief. Please email me for a supply list.

Getting Ready for Stamp-a-Faire

I am so excited for PTI's SAF tomorrow! Not only do I have the whole day with nothing else planned but I have saved some $$ to spend so I get my free stamp set! I adore this one!

Function reigns over form in my craft space I'm afraid. This may look like a pile of junk to you but to me it's the cleanest my desk has been in ages! I've got my hardware store finds ready to go and so I think I'm all set! Not looking forward to waking up early to make sure I get my order in before they start selling out of things but it's worth it. :)

Enjoy tomorrow! Rebecca

Back to School Card for The Shabby Tea Room

Hi crafty friends! I have another edition of The Shabby Tea Room for you today! This week we were inspire by a lovely back to school photo with yummy fall colours in it.

tstr school shaker

Aren’t shaker cards fun? Keep in mind that you can add things other than just beads, sequins, micro beads and glitter! There are lots of  new dies out there that make shaped confetti (though you may already have some small dies for flowers hearts and stars) AND you can use some larger 3-D items if you add some extra foam! I used some shaped buttons and brads, I just cut the backs off! I glued the school bus in place as I felt it would look weird upside down being so large. But everything else moves!

This week we were sponsored by Paper Temptress. I received quite a few different papers as part of my design team sample. My favourite was the Antique gold paper I used for the frame of my shaker. It’s such a deep rich gold! The links to all the papers I used are on The Shabby Tea Room website just under my name. Just a note: The Cryogen White is my card base. I sponged it to a rich brown to better match my card front.

I hope you will visit our challenge blog! Maybe you can be our next Top Three or our Winner! And even if you don’t enter, you can take in all the gorgeous projects by The Shabby Girls and leave comments! Thanks so much for joining me today!

Enjoy, Rebecca

See You Soon for The Shabby Tea Room

Hi there! Welcome to another week’s challenge at The Shabby Tea Room! This week’s inspiration photo is a fabulous cake!

ca tstr aug15a

I have to tell you, I am NOT a fan of orange, usually… But isn’t this amazing? All that piping? WOW! That’s a real talent. So I guess the orange was OK just his time… ha ha!

tstr orange cake

Now after all that, I couldn’t show you a bright orange card could I? So I used a SOFT orange by using corals and apricots. This fabulous image is from Crafty Secrets called See You Soon. It comes with ‘see you soon’ and ‘saying hello’ sentiments. Crafty Secrets is our amazing sponsor for this month! I hope you will check out their store. They have so many lovely vintage images.

I have to apologize for the weird, bent stick pin! Looks odd huh? it’s actually a jewellery head pin and I bent it in such a way that it would stick out from between the flowers. The bend was hidden in the ribbon but I pulled it out a bit as I wanted more to show and for the beads to stick it out more. But it must have flipped around after I finished and now it looks very weird. Ha ha!

I hope you visit the Shabby Tea Room challenge blog to see all the GORGEOUS creations of our AMAZING design team! (Little Secret: I get to see them ahead and they are FAB!)

Paper Sweeties is Turning Three!

The owner of The Shabby Tea Room, Debbie M. also owns the Paper Sweeties Store which is having it’s 3rd Anniversary today!

papersweeties-inspiration _34

This is the inspiration photo for this week’s challenge. Cute cupcakes right? Click on the photo to visit the challenge blog.

paper sweeties 3 balloon love you

I have to start by saying I CASEd this from a card by Monika Davis. I think I changed it enough to make it my own though. I am a bit disappointed with the Glossy Accents that I spread over the balloons. They seem to have yellowed the colour of the paper underneath. It did end up being a thick layer which I think added to the yellowness but maybe my Glossy Accents has been in the sun too long? I never though about keeping it in the dark. Hmmm…

paper sweeties 3 balloon love you close

The background was stencilled with transparent embossing paste and a tiny bit of white glitter was sprinkled over while it was still wet. I think it made for a subtle but sparkly background with some textural interest.

I hope you will join in the celebrations at Paper Sweeties this month.

Enjoy, Rebecca
