Miss You School-Themed Chalkboard Card

I’m entering a few challenges with this card. But mainly I want to encourage my son who is going into grade 1. It’s a big step and frankly, I’m worried how he will do. He’s plenty happy though, he has new markers! :)

school chalkboard miss you card

So this is for Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Back to School.  And for Card Maker Blog’s Card Corner Challenge: Chalkboard. I thought I could enter this week’s Fusion challenge too but apparently I was thinking of last week’s. Bummer.

Very CAS (for me anyway) but it suited the papers, sketch and my kiddo. He’d just rip off fancy bellies and play with them anyway!

Enjoy, Rebecca

SAF Closing Ceremonies

It’s been fun. Here’s my projects as of Saturday night! Thanks to the DT!

SAF13 closing ceremonies

I don’t think I’ve ever made so many projects (without assembly line production) in one day! Yeah!

SAF Rolled Dough–Sweet as Can Be Tag

I love paper clay. But warning, seal it super well or even vacuum seal it if you don’t use it all. I put mine in a ziplock bag and then in a sealed Tupperware container and it still dried out over time (months).

SAF13 rolled dough

I wish the detail of the cone had shown up but sadly it didn’t. Not sure if its because my clay wasn’t quite dry (I used the microwave method) or the ink I used or just hte surface texture doesn’t allow such fine detail to show. Bummer. I can’t wait to wrap a package using this sweet little tag!

Enjoy, Rebecca

RECIPE: rhinestones-Dollarama, Divine Twine, Delight clay, spellbinders tag die, everything else PTI

SAF Sugar Coated Ingredients–Star Hero Card

My son had to have an MRI a couple Fridays ago. He has autism and is now part of a research study. He really didn’t want to do it but I was so proud that he was brave and did it anyway. Afterwards, I asked him if he knew what you call it when someone is scared of something but is brave and does it anyway, especially when it is for other people? Of course he said no. I told him that’s what a hero is. So this is a card for him.

SAF13 sugared shapes

He doesn’t care much about how embellished a card is so I kept it minimal. He will just have fun tearing the strip off. Underneath it says “You are my hero” from the Father Knows Best set. He’s been really trying lately, even destroying a $700 TV this week so I really have to work hard to not resent him for many days at a time. So I was sort of proud of myself that this was the project that came to mind when I saw the video for adding stripes to a die cut.

SAF Limited Ingredients Challenge - Notebook

This one was a stumper! I got out all the things we were able to use and decided I’m not a fan of aqua, grey, yellow and melon together. So I left out the yellow and toned down the grey with the glitter.

SAF13 limited ingredients

It kinda looks silver now right? Much better! I don’t have melon ink (every time I go to order, it’s sold out, what’s with that??) so I stamped off berry sorbet to get the palest and closest I could. What I like best about it is the bottom. I normally use patterned paper for the bottom. This time I went hunting in my stamps for some of those little companion images that work so well for stamping backgrounds like this. This one came from Vintage Labels I think and I love how it looks like vintage wallpaper.

RECIPE: all PTI except Scor-Tape, foam dots and glitter.

SAF Scent-sational Cards–Welcome to the Neighbourhood

Good friends of ours recently moved much closer to us and we are so excited! I can’t wait to see their place! So I made this card to welcome them.

SAF13 scented EP

Most of the card is October Afternoon but the sentiment and card base are PTI. I used cinnamon to scent my brown EP but honestly, even though I used much less than the 2:1 ratio recommended, I found my sentiment was only partly embossed, most of the powder blew away. So I carefully stamped over again and re-embossed it. Now it looks good but I have no idea if it will scratch and sniff. I wasn’t taking any chances before I photographed it! I tried using my tea stained lace but I really didn’t like the colour it turned. Kinda weird. I hope I can manage to use it up somehow.

RECIPE: Patterned paper, journaling card, die cuts-OA, tape, lace-stash, grey cardstock-PTI, sentiment-Home Made

SAF Custom Accents from the Oven–Star Key Chain

For this one, I was kind of stumped, I’m not a huge fan of skrink plastic. So I made a key chain for my son, it coordinates with a project I will show later (but made first) for the glitter challenge.

SAF13 oven baked bellies

I cut the shapes with my die cutter and coloured them with Copic markers using my air brush system for smooth colouring. Colouring them before heating also keeps them from being sticky and gives you more intense colour. Maybe too intense. R59 turned so dark red that it looked brown and I had to do it over again!  I mounted it on a tag to give it to my son. He thinks I’m making it for his baby sitter, too funny!

PTI Blog Hop–Rainbow Cake Inspiration

Nuts, I was just a hair too late linking this up tonight. I tried at 10:59 but seems Nichole’s blog has been giving me error messages all day. Weird. But I still like the card so I’m going to post it anyway. Obviously not my usual style but still fun.

happy for you PTI hop

I think it needs a few rhinestones, whadda you think? I wish I’d been more careful lining it up vertically. I’m off quite a bit, I know, I know… I’m too much of a perfectionist!

SAF Mixing Mists to Match–Baby Bee Tag

I have to admit, I only have one PTI reinker so I’m afraid there was no mixing going on here, just misting. And it turned out lighter than I would have liked but it’s still pretty darn cute IMHO!

SAF13 mixing mist

I copied Melissa and used the Hex cover plate as a mask. I tried to be frugal and cut it from kraft and misted on the back side so I can reuse it. It warped so I dried it under my cutting mat and I think it will be good to go! Yeah! I also saved the pieces for another project. Then I stamped the flowers and centers inside each hexagon. It made for a very cute pattern! The rest is pretty obvious. :)

SAF Sprinkle of Salt–Smiles Card

I’m afraid I didn’t get the dramatic results everyone else got from this technique. Maybe I didn’t use enough water? But the card is still pretty and useable.

SAF13 salt

I have a small confession to make. I burned the bottom corner of my paper as I dried it so I had to cover it with something. Thank goodness for die cut lace! It adds a little touch I like anyway. This shabby gal can only make so many totally CAS cards right? :) I think I made add a few rhinestones too!

SAF Gallon Quart Pint Challenge–Felt with the Heart

This one took some thinking. I usually use a lot of patterned paper with lots of colours. and I was trying to work fast to make the most of the crafting time I had since I started late and we were invited out in the evening! I finally managed to go super CAS and surprisingly, I was thrilled with the end result.

SAF13 Quart pint

If you can’t tell, I used aqua mist as my gallon, Hawaiian shores as the quart and enchanted evening as the pint. I an totally going to use this layout and these leaves again, I love them!

SAF Tea Staining–Vintage Daisy Card

I just got a new Sizzix die I used to make this sweet little daisy and I thought it would work perfectly with the deep tea staining I got on this seam binding ribbon.

SAF13 Tea Stained challenge

Instead of bright yellow, I used a deep, almost brown-yellow Copic to tint the middle of the petals giving it a vintage look to match the card. I have no idea who made the papers as someone gave them to me to use to make ATCs. They were sitting on my desk and looked so pretty and vintage they found a new purpose.

RECIPE: kraft, ivory, ocean tides cardstock-PTI, avocado cardstock-SU!, Hug Snug seam binding ribbon, Sizzix min daisy die, Viva decor paper pen, Kaisercraft pearls, Copic marker. Spellbinders embossing folder

SAF Breakfast Bake n Take Recipe Card–Shell Card

So this is first of my Stamp-a-Faire posts from here on out referred to as SAF. Gotta be quick and efficient when posting 11 times in one day right? I could probably post them in one big post but I like to be able to search my cards later and if they are in one bunch, I’ll frustrate myself later. I promise, if you subscribe and this annoys you, it’s a once-a-year type of thing!

SAF13 recipe card

I would add the graphics I used but Nichole’s blog is so heavy with photos, videos and linkys right now that I can’t seem to access the page. Sorry!

Circus n Roses Card for Simon Says Stamp n Show Challenge

I can’t believe it took me so long to find out about the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge blog now called the Monday Challenge Blog. With my love of all things shabby and vintage, it’s right up my alley. This week’s challenge of Carnivals wasn’t super interesting to me until I looked at this month’s SSS card kit! The papers in it were perfect!

circus n roses

I’m going to keep it short and sweet today as I have 10 other projects to post! Yep, I participated in PTI’s Stamp-a-Faire so I have to blog all of those too. One thing that is hard to see both in the photo but also IRL is the gold tulle. If you look at the top hat above the top right rose you can see it. I sprayed it with gold mist so its uneven and very vintage looking. LOVE it! IRL it adds an ethereal quality and you don’t notice it at first but you can see it.

You Rock for Unscripted Sketches

A whole bunch of kids in our extended circle of friends graduated this year. We don’t know them well enough to get invited to grad parties (which is why I found out so late and am still making cards)but I still wanted to send something! It is so hard to make teen boy cards, I should get brownie points from the judges of the sketch challenge!

You Rock teen card

The bottom is done with a Tim Holtz embossing folder. I misted the cardstock so it wouldn’t crack and Yea! it worked. I added ink direct-to-paper while the cardstock was still wet and liked how the ink softened so I added more ink and more mist. It accents the embossing without looking harsh. The black strip is thin washi tape.

Next I used two colours of ink to stamp the funky blob under the guitarist. Why is it that SU! seems to struggle to get bright turquiose/teals colours to match the colours on the ink case? Does the ink fade over time? Do they just not match it correctly in the first place? In the case of both Bahama Bay and Taken with Teal, I thought they were too bright so used neither when they were new. As I developed a love for teal, I got them out only to find neither is nearly as bright as the case shows. They aren’t just a little off but WAAAAY off. So I used Hawaiian Shores rom PTI (which does match the colour on the case!) to finish the stamping of the sentiment which is why they don’t match.

UnScripted sk_FlashbackSketch27

I used the Flashback Summer sketch #27 but you only have a few hours to play so get going if you want to join. But you have a bit longer to play Flashback Bingo so take a look at the post before the one I’m linking to if you’d like to play.
