Shabby Pear for Doodle Pantry and Skipping Stones Sketch

I have acquired a new love for colouring fruit. No idea why, I just really enjoy it. So I was glad when Laurie added pears to her fruit basket!

I think this is a Bosc pear. There are a few orange or rust coloured pears out there. Considering how many varieties of fruits out there we hardly ever see, there are probably lots! Did you know there are hundreds of varieties of apples alone?

I had a hard time getting the leaves to look right, I think Copic needs to make some darker greens. I used YG 60s but even G99 really isn’t that dark. When I eventually take the advanced Copic Class, I will definitely ask what to mix with the greens to get really dark values.

I saw a card out in blog land a few days ago that folded the corner of DP just like fabric and I tried to emulate this. I really love how it looks. Underneath is a vintage book page. I like the look of something other than CS under the peeled back edges. The flower is popped up on foam dots.

Beautiful Bride ATC

Another creation for a Swap-Bot swap. It was a wedding ATC swap. I decided to go with very soft colours but mostly white; I’ve seen a lot of white on white lately and wanted to try it!

 
The background is a soft muted green floral from Basic Grey’s Porcelain paper pack. The tulle in the back is cut quite wide and about as high as the ATC. Then I tied it with sheer white ribbon and glued it to the ATC; the bride covers the knot. I stamped her on shimmer white cardstock; I wish you could see the shimmer!

Butterfly Challenge Card

This card is for the Embellish Magazine colour challenge of kraft, sea foam, peach and cream with a quirky, cute style and Unscripted Sketches Challenge #69 with a piggy back challenge  to use anything except the typical punched flower!

 


I can’t believe I played in both challenges and neither have expired yet! I am always playing challenges and forgetting to enter my link in the challenge. Everything is pretty easy to figure out but I did have an interesting way of doing the clouds.

I wanted the clouds to puff up but still appear to come from behind the cut outs. At the same time, I didn’t want the paper to be puffy around the edges. So I cut the clouds using the die and I cut the shape out of the paper also. Then I stretched the fluffy cloud stuff, natural cotton quilt batting, so it went just under the edges of the paper and I put score tape all around the die cuts to they would stick down well. I got just the look I was going for.

Baby Blessing Card for Taylored Expressions Blog Hop

10:55 I can’t believe I am down to the wire with this one. I’ll add more details after this basic post is up. ETA: I had so much fun creating this card, I say that a lot don’t I? I guess that is simply because I enjoy my craft so much!! LOL!!

I actually created one very similar but boy-themed card for www.Swap-Bot.com that I loved and as it was part of a swap, I mailed it away. Sadly, I was silly enough to mail it WITHOUT taking a picture first! Seriously??? And I also made a really cute tag to go along with it. {{SIGH}}

I dyed the seam binding ribbon myself using SU! reinkers, blush blossom and pretty in pink. I hand cut the grass fringe after cutting the CS’s edge with a scalloped paper punch. I used my Copic Airbrush system to create the background using Eclipse tape masks with the cloud dies from PTI. I don’t usually take photos during the day so my photo box set up never works in the day time. It isn’t too bad with editing but the bear and the kraft CS aren’t quite so orangey IRL.

The button isn’t supposed to be tipped up, but as I literally finished it, threw it in the photo box and photographed it 5 minutes before the posting deadline, I hadn’t noticed to fix it! I also just noticed that one of the clothespins on the diaper cover snuck behind the ‘clothesline’. I’ll have to glue those in place I guess.

The onesie, bear’s tummy and the frilly diaper cover are all paper pieced with touches of Copic for detail and shading. If you notice, the DP’s flower is right in the middle of the image. Not an accident! I used sharp tipped, non-stick scissors to cut away the rubber from the center of the stamp so I could see the paper through it.

Clear Baby Boy ATC

I am always trying new things and this one turned out so cool! I made this so long ago I’ve forgotten but I think it was a brown and blue ATC swap.

 
I decided to use the clear cardstock because I had scraps on my desk. I embossed the clear background with an embossing folder; when I did it before, I got white raised areas but not this time, I wonder why? I still thought the subtle texture was cool. It is hard to see but I subtly enhanced the ribbing with a Copic marker. The bottom of the ATC is a sticker.

Stamping Bella Get Well

I love this stamp! It is supposed to be a doctor but I like to colour her more like a nurse. I used to love wearing coloured scrubs especially since I HAD to wear white ONLY in school! Nurses never wear hats anymore and most of the time it is hard to tell who is a doctor, nurse, tech or orderly!

I just loved combining these prints from October Afternoon. I can’t remember if they come from Fly a Kite or Thrift Shop, to me they are basically one huge awesome paper pack anyhow! My aunt was in the hospital a few weeks ago so I mailed this card to her. I think I must have used a sketch as this isn’t something I’d think of on my own but as I missed posting this for so long, I can’t remember. Bummer!

Larkspur for Joan’s Garden’s Challenge

Joan’s Garden’s Challenge this week was to use purple and green, a butterfly and a strip of DP.

 
Well, I used a bit more than a strip of DP so I hope she will overlook that! I coloured my own ribbon, again! creating striped ribbon this time. I used a V000 for the base colour and and V12 for the striping. I created a bow with my Bow Easy and arranged it into a half circle with a huge dimensional glue dot. I left half of it free to attach the button.

So guess where the lace came from? It was from a nightgown I wore to death! I kept the lace because it is still like new! One edge was sewn to the old fabric so I cut it off and that left a raw edge so this layout had a perfect place to place it where that would be hidden. I added beaded edges to the main panel using Scor-Tape.

The layout is Sweet Sketch 54. I though it was the latest one but I copied it off of someone’s blog and I guess they were playing an old one. I was so disappointed when I saw that! I am really trying to play more sketches and challenges.

Mini Roses for Doodle Pantry and Unscripted Sketches

I loved making this card. It took me a while to get all of the elements in the right places but I am finally thrilled!

I coloured the image with Copics and paper pieced the pot. I sponged the surround with Distress ink with the Nestability in place. I dyed and crinkled the ribbon myself, 4 drops pretty in pink reinker and 3 of blush blossom.

Brown, Cream and One ATC

I hosted this swap on Swap-Bot recently. I’ve seen lots of Black White and One, even hosted it before, but never this one. I, of course, went with pink for my other colour.

The base is cardstock covered in some really wide eyelet lace. It is actually much wider than you even see here, I cut off a big piece! Love that lace. The butterfly is a Cuttlebug embossing folder and die combo, well, they are two pieces. It is a set of 4 embossing folders and a matching die. Way cool. I sponged ink over the raised areas with Victorian Rose Distress ink. But once I added glitter, you really can’t see it, next time I will use white transparent glitter. The ribbon is from Miss Alayneeah on etsy. I love the variegated look she gets.

Ever wonder how to get a bow to look like that? All I do is tie a bow with extra long tails and pull the middle tight. Then I put a forceps clamp on the knot and tie another bow. Ta Da! A double bow!

Don’t Just Float through Life, Make Waves for Doodle Pantry and Skipping Stones Sketch

I am in love with anything to do with the beach or the ocean so this image really appealed to me.

 
I Googled seahorses and other than a bright yellow of some, they are mostly pretty boringly coloured so I decided to take artistic licence and go with some fun, ice cream-ish colours to go with my Kioshi DP. However, when I started looking through the pad, I realized that though the colours were perfect, the geometric nature of the prints wasn’t organic enough for this underwater scene. So I went with this cool ‘bubbley’ print from another Basic Grey DP pad, Pheobe. Just right!

I used a sketch by Skipping Stones Designs for this card. I flipped it then changed the partial circle shape into a rectangle, mimicked the scalloped edge with the scallops on my sentiment panel and added an extra shell to represent the circle on the sketch. I airbrushed the background with ‘waves’ of BG75 and B91 but you can’t really see the ‘waves’ because they are too subtle. Maybe next time they will show up better if I make them each wider. Overall, I like the look of the background though. The ‘seaweed’ is felt cut with the regular PTI rickrack die. It cuts though felt like buttah!

The sand is a cool product I picked up at CHA, sand mixed with glue that is spreadable on your card or project! Way cool! They had lots of colours that corresponded with the colours of sand on various beaches across the world. And they also had shells with glue on them too! It is such an easy product to use and not too expensive either at $5 for sand and $6 for shells. It seems to go a long was so it was well worth it. I’ve wanted an easy way to add sand to my projects for ages!

Cuddly Koala for Doodle Pantry

I have wanted to go to Australia long before the movie was ever even though of. In particular to see these little guys, as well as many other things of course. Apparently, there is a place where you can go and even cuddle them!

 
I had a huge challenge colouring this guy. First I was going to colour and shade him, then remove colour with colourless blender on a rag to mimic fur. Then I had a better idea! I did a light base coat, then APPLIED my colour with the rag rather than removing it! I used the twill-type band area of the washcloth rather than the terry part thinking it would give me a better fur texture and I also hoped it wouldn’t soak up as much ink thereby wasting it. I think it worked really, REALLY well; I am so happy with the results!

To make sure the colour didn’t get all over the rest of the paper, I put a sticky note over the image, then held it up to the light and traced the areas I wanted colour on. Then I cut it out saving the reverse, creating a reverse mask. Then I applied my colour. I hope you will try this technique soon. Just remember, you can still add shading with this technique. Just twist the tip of the washcloth quite small to get more accurate results and use more than one colour of marker just like you would to blend the colour.

Back from CHA!

I had a great time at the CHA Consumer Show. I didn’t get too many photos but I will show you the awesome make n takes a bit later. They were amazing with usually less than a 5 minute line! The PTI booth seemed to be the busiest, especially right after the show opened. Being about 10th in line, I could have gone to the make n take or the booth. I (unwisely) chose to do the make n take first thinking the lines would be as long as at the Creativ Festival in Toronto (difficult to get to make ANYTHING) but I should have hit the store first because 10 minutes after opening, I was stuck in the store for an HOUR!

I was a bit disappointed that few manufacturers stayed to show us the new stuff but a few did. I also missed checking out the eCraftwell die cutting machine. But overall, the shopping was awesome and I met so many lovely ladies I’ve only known from their blog posts. I sure hope you all get to go another year!

Giraffe Baby for Doodle Pantry

I love this giraffe, isn’t he cute? I just love Laurie’s animals.

He matches the colours in Basic Grey’s Max and Whiskers paper SOOOOOO perfectly! At first I was thinking more of a baby card but I couldn’t think of what paper to use. Next time, I think I will colour  it in pink and make a baby girl card. I used a sketch I downloaded from a blog I was reading and I have no idea who made it or for which challenge it was created so if anyone knows, please pass on the deets so I can link my card up!
