Butterfly Project #1

I finally got to make my first Butterfly Project Butterfly. I’m sure with over 400,000 some one else has come up with the butterfly covered in butterflies idea but I still think it is pretty if not totally unique. I wonder if they will count this as one butterfly or as 23! Don’t forget if you make a butterfly, you can enter to win a stamp set at Craft Critique.

I feel so bad for children of the world who die so young for so many reasons, not just the 1.5 million children who were murdered during the Holocaust. Sickness, war, child soldiers, abuse, neglect and starvation. I LOVE my kids SO much, I can’t butterfly project 1
even imagine what it would be like to lose them. When I think about it, usually when I am tired, I can’t help but make myself cry and I have to try really hard not to think about it. Can you imagine getting off a train after a horrible ride, packed in like cattle, your most precious possessions gone, but you think, “At least we are together as a family,” then your children are ripped from you  and you never see them again?! Absolutely agonizing. To me, this project is so important. I mean, how else could I personally make any difference in the lives of those who died so butterfly project 1 closeup1
tragically so many  years ago, so far away. Hopefully this project not only honours those who were lost but perhaps makes some tiny difference to the few survivors who are left. I made up the sentiment, it might be a bit cheesy but all of those kids whose childhoods are stolen should have had time to just be kids. When I wrote it, I was thinking of kids running through a field filled with flowers chasing butterflies, carefree, able to live, love and grow without fear.

The base is the chipboard from a SU! DSP pack. I sprayed it with custom shimmer mist made with water and pink gold interference Pearl Ex. Because Pearl Ex does not contain a fixative, I sprayed butterfly project 1 closeup2one on after. See the gold on the lower right butterfly wing? Interference colours of Pearl Ex look different depending on the light so sometimes the background looks pink and sometimes it looks gold, Neat huh? Each butterfly is sponged with worn lipstick Distress ink to unify the project and grunge it up a bit. It was way too perfect before that.

Enjoy, Rebecca

Webster’s Pages Mojo Monday Card

I love Mojo Monday! You have to enter to try and win a FREE stamp set worth $24 too! Not too shabby of a prize! I won once before with this card and I didn’t enter again for a while because I wasn’t sure if I was allowed even though I couldn’t find a rule. Some contests do not allow winners to win again for three months. No point in entering if you can’t win right? So here goes with Mojo Monday #98.

(Can you tell I want to try staging more interestingly?) The DP base and the scalloped edge are both Webster’s Pages journaling cards. I just LOVE these! They are decorated on one side and the websters post cardother side is lined and decorated. The scalloped edge was printed only, I cut it out from a larger card (not pre-cut). On the right side, the stamp, Post Card wording, stripes and the flourish-y were part of the journaling card-YEAH!!

The sentiment at the bottom was on the back of the scalloped journaling card. These cards are just so beautiful, anyone could make a gorgeous card with them. The heart frame used to be websters post card closeup silver, it is a Memory Makers tag maker frame; I coloured it with my Pilot gold paint pen. Both the photo corners and the frame were too bright for the rest of the card so I darkened them with a dark brown Copic so they fit better with the rest of the card.

The ribbon bow is made with the 2” Bow Easy, two-three looped silk ribbon bows layered on each other with a SU! pretties kit pearl on top. All of the layers are sponged with cocoa ink. The ink bottle and pen nib were stamped on Kraft CS, cut out and coloured with markers, cocoa for the bottle and Copic c-1 for the nib; both had clear Spica pen over them. For the bottle I hoped it might look more like glass without having to get out the glaze and for the nib, more metallic. The music is a real vintage music sheet and I used those old-fashioned, lick-to-stick (yucky tasting) photo corners.

Enjoy, Rebecca

Bundle Of Joy Challenge Card

Another Challenge card for the JustRite Stamps 2 Sketches 3 You challenge. I started this card AGES ago when I first got these stamps. I got as far as the card base and the image with the scalloped layer underneath, then I got stuck. I tried a bunch of things and just couldn’t get it to work. I’m surprised I even remembered to go back to it! This sketch worked perfectly to finish this card. And how cool that it was a JustRite image with this being a JustRite sponsored sketch! I guess this one also qualifies for Sharon Johnson’s No Time to Stamp #98 because punched lace was included in the possibilities for the challenge.

bundle of joy1

I think I may have lightened the photo just a bit too much, sorry. My photography class starts Monday, expect much better photos really soon! This is the first time I have used the MS scalloped scallop punch. I think it looks like a curtain pulled back, especially if you only have two scallops. I wonder if it is possible to punch around a circle, that would look TOTALLY cool. (I am such an 80’s kid!)

Enjoy, Rebecca

Triple Challenge Hanging Treat Holder

This card is for the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge FTTC26 - make a monochromatic card, OK, so this isn’t a card but close enough right? It also qualifies for the sketch at 2 Sketches 4 You sponsored by JustRite Stamps. I doubt I’ll win but I have to try considering the prize is $100 worth of JustRite goodies! I have been dying to get some more fonts to make my own verses and phrases. This also qualifies for Sharon Johnson’s No Time to Stamp challenge #98 Lovely Lace.

I got the idea for this treat holder from Splitcoast Stampers. Click HERE for the directions. hanging treat holder1Now this holder isn’t very deep, only 1/2” so consider that when making it. Any thin/flat treat or candy bar will fit like Skor, Crispy Crunch, deluxe chocolate bars like mine and of course, good ‘ole Hershey! Other treats like old-fashioned candy sticks or those sugar powder filled sticks, are they Pixie Sticks? You could even pack it with fruit leather/roll ups for a healthier alternative. I can even see it as packaging for a small gift like a tie, gift card (tucked into tissue paper for security). Or how about tea/cup o’ soup packet/Kleenex pack for a sick friend? This can hang on either a door knob or a wine/juice bottle. It wouldn’t be very hard to alter to increase the depth, then you could add more/larger stuff.

It was SUPER easy to make, even easier than other templates I’ve used that I’ve described as easy. hanging treat holder2Score, cut, assemble; took about 5 minutes to make! Of course it took way longer to decorate! I considered decorating the hole part of the holder but I realized that it wouldn’t show with the size of my chocolate bar. The paper is Bazzil printed paper, I had to add a ‘liner’ of the patterned cardstock so that the area around the hole would have the same pattern as the rest of the holder.
