Butterfly Thanks

I am so in love with last month’s Simon Says Stamp kit, I have to play with it again before the next one shows up.

Now i have to start by saying that the hearts cut from the striped paper are not black. They are backed with gold mirrored paper. You can see it a bit through the vellum just under the bow.  The other gold is gilder’s paste which I used on the edges of the card front and on the raised edges of the embossed butterfly.

The striped panel is raised with fun foam. But then when I went to add the banner and ‘thanks’, I was a bit stuck on how to raise it up to match the striped panel’s height. I ended up using white fun foam cut with the word die and carefully placed behind word die cut. It works quite well!

The Shabby Tea Room Rose Thanks Card

Hello and welcome to another Shabby Tea Room challenge. This week we have the loveliest photo and a great company sponsored us. DiesRUs.com has TONS of amazing dies!

I used an older Spellbinders die called Vintage Ovals (I think). Sadly it's retired so they don't stock it anymore but in trying to find it, I searched for ovals and vintage and I found so many fabulous dies I'd love to have. They even have the Elizabeth Craft series of Susan's Garden dies that make lovely 3-D flowers. There are a few I've been wanting to try!

Isn't this the best inspiration photo? I love all the white and soft pink with so many flowers. I wished I'd had a cameo in soft pink to add to this card but in the end, I decided to keep this flat so I could mail it. I used some Maggie Holmes die cuts and they are amazing. So many pieces in a pack! I used Retro Sketches #172 but sadly it ended on Saturday and this card had to be kept secret until now so I didn't get a chance to link it up. Oh well, half the time I forget anyway! :)

Giving Thanks Card

One of my favourite new stamps is this Giving Thanks stamp from the October SSS card kit. I love the font and its such a nice sentiment especially since i make so many think you cards.

This was another Retro sketch challenge (84) that I forgot to link up. What is wrong with me? I’ve got to start blogging my cards right away, like the same night! I stuck with the sketch pretty closely just changing the spacing to accommodate the sentiment and not tearing the ends of the strips there there’s a gap.

These papers and sequins area really fun. The heart is also a SSS product, their hearts die with all the different sizes and shapes. I’m enjoying making some quick and easy CAS cards with my kits. Its a whole new way of looking at card making and I’m getting some products I’d never choose on my own so its a refreshing change. If you visit for the shabby cards, don’t worry, there will still be plenty of those!

Pink Rose and Flourish Card

Once again, I missed linking this up to a challenge. Fortunately, I made it for two challenges, one of which isn’t over yet! Yeah!

Not much to tell here. I used last week’s Retro Sketches for the layout. The other challenge is Joan’s Gardens weekly challenge to use pink and white only, something curvy like a flourish or vine and a flower of some kind. Check, check and check! I added some colour to the vertical piece of DP because it was too much like the background using a blend of Tattered Rose and Spun Sugar Distress inks. The colours don’t look like they match so well in this but I promise, they do IRL. The stamping isn’t at all peachy like it appears. Wish I knew more about photo editing.

Papertrey Ink October Blog Hop–Love Has Wings

I loved the colour combos PTI provided as inspiration for this month’s blog hop. I don’t have quite a few of them though as I’m still working with a 2009 paper pack so I went with the combo shown below.

The little house is a layered die cut which resembles chipboard. It is made of three layers with an additional roof layer and the patterned paper layer. The heart section is only one layer thick so it is recessed into the house.

I used a new technique I developed for the leaves. I turned the leaves upside down and scored the veins. Then I flipped it back over and folded each score line upwards, away from the scoring. This cracked the score lines giving a vintage. distressed look. Then I sponged ink over the cracked score lines to accentuate them.
