Ink Blended Inlay Congratulations

Guess what? One of my friends is pregnant with TWINS! Scary but exciting at the same time. You probably don’t know this but I spent quite a bit of my career taking care of babies and kids and that included taking care of multiples at night so their parents could sleep!

I figured my friend is going to be inundated with baby-themed things so for this one I kept it baby free. Sure the colours are a bit baby suggestive but no bottles, soothers or booties! I’ll be sure to send her a baby themed card later and probably one for her shower too!

I masked my panel with masking tape and inked it with Aqua mist, hawaiian shores, hibiscust burst (all PTI) and angel pink (Memento). Then I die cut the word from the panel making sure to keep all the tiny pieces from the insides of the letters. I inlaid the empty space with a black die cut, replacing all of the little bits I’d saved. I added my white panel to an aqua mist card base (Cardstock by PTI).

Life Is Better in the Summer Canvas

I am quite honestly addicted to summer. It improves my mood, makes my skin nicer and most of my aches and pains disappear (though it’s taking a while this year so far). Yeah for SUMMER!!

To honour summer, I was inspired to make this canvas. I have a wall at the front of my house near the door where I put seasonal décor, changing it each new season. This will go up on my wall soon or maybe now since I love it so much! I started with a basic dollar store canvas, nothing fancy, it was stapled on the edges and not the back but that was ok for this project. I covered it in heavy acrylic paint in titan buff. Then I dry brushed on some metallic gold paint on the sides and edges of the front.

Next I added some light modeling paste using a coral stencil. I allowed it to dry then replaced the stencil and air brushed some peach Copic marker. Then I decided I needed some more texture so I randomly and messily applied some glass bead gel. If you want to use this, be warned that it takes a long time to dry if you apply it too thickly. I pieced some Kaisercraft papers adding some coloured modeling paste using a gorgeous ocean-themed poem stencil (both by Red Lead Paperworks).

The papers were both sponged on the edges with matching Distress inks and I popped them up with a foam layer. I usually adhere my papers with gel medium so this was a new things for me. Next it was time to add some fabulous embellies!

The tag and oval pieces were from the back of the Kaisercraft paper pad. Dreams was die cut using a SSS die. The sea grass is a Frantic Stamper die cut from Kraft cardstock.  Some assorted shell chips, beach glass and sand was added across the bottom. A few other embellies and some real fish net rounded out the canvas!

I think I’ll add a knotted string of beads to hang this from. I have a TON of ocean themed charms and beads that will match the colours in this canvas! Fabulous right?

Watercolour Butterflies

Today I am playing in the PTI blog hop! I just loved the inspiration photo they picked this month!

Here is my take on the photo. I decided to use butterflies; I had thought about using ice cream cones but the die is too large to use in this pattern on a card. In the future it might make a nice canvas though! I used my professional watercolours from various companies and some Arches watercolour paper. I’d normally save such nice paper for larger paintings but I flubbed the other side so at least it got used right? The white panel was splattered with some grey watercolour and I added a vellum strip with a white embossed sentiment across the panel. The card base is made from aqua mist cardstock! Last but not least, I added a few sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.

Interactive Teacher Gift Card Holder Card

When I saw this sketch for Crazy 4 Challenges, I didn’t have anything special in mind. But then I was looking through some old cards and saw one with a special fold that works perfectly with our sketch.

The way I adhered the panels makes this not only interactive but also a gift card holder! There are basically two mini cards glued to the front of this card!

I will probably add a glue dot just to make sure the gift card doesn’t slip out. If I’d left a wee bit more room (probably have to make a bit larger card) I could have added some glue to the underside of the yellow card, just to the left of the fold line. Then it wouldn’t be able to slip out. But right now it’s a tight fit.

I hope you can play with our sketch this week. It’s very versatile and don’t forget you can change up the shapes or rotate, flip, mirror etc if you wish. Hope to see you over at the challenge blog!

Baby Girl Carriage Card

Since I made a couple boy baby cards last week, I had to balance my stash out with a girl card!

I started with some baby paper but I couldn’t find a pink ink to match so I started looking through some other papers. Wow do I have a lot, LOT of paper! Stuff I’d totally forgotten about. It was like shopping without paying anything! This paper isn’t baby at all but so soft and pretty.
