Vintage Car Experiment Card

I LOVE what Jennifer McGuire does with Tim Holtz techniques and Distress inks. So when I bought these Tim Holtz stamps, I had to try mixing the them. I had no idea how I wanted this card to look, no idea what techniques I would use. I just sat down and started to play. The vintage NYC train ticket was stamped on first; I punched holes in it just like the ticket seller would have so many years ago. If you’ve never seen this type of ticket, there are cities vintage car card listed on both sides, the seller punches the to and from cities and also the amount paid at the bottom. There are single digit numbers up to 9, then 10, 20, 30. For 32 dollars, the 30 and the 2 would be punched and there is another section with 1-9, then 20, 30, 40 etc up to 90 for the cents and they are punched similarly. Clever system when there are no computers!

I stamped the car with Versamark and embossed it with copper EP. The verse was stamped with Versamark and embossed with clear powder. Using cut ‘n’ dry foam, I sponged peeled paint and broken china inks on randomly. It was a bit too bright for me so I added weathered wood around the edges to tone it down a bit. The clock was stamped on cocoa paper and glued on, the hands are from a SU! set. The rest is pretty easy to figure out. I’m not totally sure I love it, it is so different from my usual style. I LOVE Tim’s vintage, grungy style but clearly I have to work hard to get the look and have much more work to go!! Hopefully, one day, practice cards like this one will make perfect!

Enjoy, Rebecca

  1. Nicey done, Rebecca. I just discovered Jennfer's blog and ran to my HL to purchase the foam squares. I don't have many vintage style stamps, but, I think I have an SU set that may work. I'll be playing soon.
